A checklist for the decision in front of you
Answer eight planning questions about the reason for the project, available reports, building type, access, renovation, occupancy, finish expectations and any signs of immediate danger. The result identifies records to gather and coordination questions to discuss. It does not diagnose wiring or certify safety.

Gather information without investigating wiring
Use reports and photographs you already have. Additional photographs should be taken only from normal safe access. Do not remove covers, move insulation, pull conductors or test a circuit to answer a checklist question. An unanswered question can be recorded as something for the assessment.
Prepare for the assessment
Different deadlines need different records
An insurer’s request, a purchase negotiation and a planned insulation job can each change the order of decisions. Share the exact wording with the contractor. A completion record should describe the actual scope, and a third party decides whether that record satisfies its requirement.
